Description:
Sacred Grounding is a visual prayer—a meditation on rest, presence, and the sacred inheritance of Black womanhood. The central figure sits in silhouette, still and strong, her spine aligned with something far deeper than posture. Her form is quiet. Her roots are deep.
She is not waiting. She is communing.
Laser engraved into natural wood, her outline echoes the curves of the land and the rhythm of breath. She is surrounded by vibrant, authentic African fabric—specifically a sunburst wax print design commonly found in West African markets, especially in Ghana and Nigeria. This radiating pattern, rooted in the aesthetic traditions of Ankara and Dutch wax print, is more than ornamentation—it is a language. In many West African communities, these designs symbolize spiritual radiance, ancestral light, and the cyclical wisdom of the sun.
This fabric speaks. It remembers.
Created by R.V. Monroe—the shared hand of Robert and Venice Monroe—this piece reflects sacred collaboration. Robert engraves form and figure with reverence. Venice surrounds her with rhythm, balance, and fabric that carries lineage and meaning. Together, they frame her not as image, but as altar.
Sacred Grounding is a reminder: stillness is strength. Rest is resistance. And Black women do not meditate to escape—they meditate to return. To the earth. To the body. To the power that never left them.
